Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) continues water main work on Cooper Road, Hunt Road and the Home Acres subdivision. These projects may cause some inconvenience to motorists in the project areas. Please be cautious when driving through construction areas and obey the posted speed limit signs and any detours to avoid injury to workers in the area or to your vehicle. Questions regarding any of the projects below should be directed to the Public Works Director's Office at (513) 745-8538.
GREATER CINCINNATI WATER WORKS WATER MAIN REPLACEMENTS Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) is also replacing the old water main on Hunt Road between Plainfield Road and West Avenue. Additionally, they are replacing all of the old water mains in the Home Acres Subdivision (a.k.a. Birdville). During construction, Hunt Road will be reduced to one lane with long delays for motorists. Cooper Road and Ronald Reagan Highway should be used as detours for all through traffic. Next summer, all roadways affected by the water line replacement project will be repaved to provide a new roadway surface.
DOWNTOWN BLUE ASH TRAFFIC SIGNAL REPLACEMENTS The City of Blue Ash will replace the six traffic signals in the Downtown area on Kenwood Road from the Kenwood/Cooper intersection to the Kenwood/YMCA intersection and the Cooper/Hunt intersection. The new signals will be energy-saving LED signals and will be “coordinated” to provide a smooth flow of traffic on Kenwood Road during heavy traffic periods. New traffic signal poles will be installed at all intersections, as well as battery back-up systems to allow the continued operation of signals during power outages. Additionally, crosswalks will be enhanced to provide safer crossings for pedestrians. This project is partially funded with a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program grant from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Council of Governments. This project was awarded to Elex, Inc. by Blue Ash City Council on May 27, 2010, and work began in August.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADES The City of Blue Ash has an ongoing program to upgrade the traffic signals throughout the City from incandescent lights to LED (light emitting diode) lights. The LED lights use significantly less electricity, last longer between failures, provide brighter signals and support battery back-up systems at major intersections. Additionally, “count-down” pedestrian signals are being installed at intersections with wide roadways (such as Reed Hartman Highway) to assist pedestrians and battery backup units are being installed at major intersections. The following intersections are included in the 2010 program and all upgrades have been completed:
2010 SIDEWALK PROGRAM
The 2010 Sidewalk Program will continue the City’s efforts to provide connectivity between neighborhoods and businesses to frequent destinations around Blue Ash (Recreation Center, Municipal and Safety Center, Downtown, Golf Course, etc). New sidewalks are planned to be constructed in the following areas:
This project was awarded to R.A. Miller Construction Co. by Blue Ash City Council on July 8, 2010. The contractor began work August 3 on the Reed Hartman Highway section of sidewalk, and work on the Cooper Road section followed the next week. During construction, motorists may experience delays since most of the work is adjacent to the roadway. Please use caution and observe all traffic control devices.
2010 PAVING PROGRAM
The 2010 Paving Program will include repaving the Golf Maintenance parking lot at 3800 Mohler Road as well as repairs and resurfacing of the following residential streets:
This project was awarded to Mt. Pleasant Blacktopping Company, Inc. by Blue Ash City Council on July 8, 2010. Mill work (grinding) on all streets in the program began the week of August 23, followed by crack sealing on all streets and ending with new asphalt paving the week of September 6. This schedule is dependent on the weather as well as material and equipment availability. Please use caution and observe all traffic control devices and flaggers.
