The Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has advised us that Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 21-27, 2010. A Statewide Tornado drill will be conducted Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 9:50AM. EMA encourages each school to participate and practice tornado drills throughout the spring.

Please be aware that the sirens in Hamilton County will not be set off for the statewide test.

March is chosen each year because sudden spring weather changes and changing seasonal wind currents enhance the possibility of tornadoes or floods.

Know the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch, and take the precautions appropriate for each. Remember, a watch means severe conditions are possible; a warning means severe conditions are imminent, and you should take shelter immediately.

In Hamilton County, the outdoor warning sirens will sound a steady tone for five (5) minutes when a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued during a Tornado Watch.
